Private/Dedicated Line Wire Modems
Dedicated wire means privately owned copper wire installed between sites. Typically limited to short-range communications (<10,000 feet or 3,000 meters), dedicated wire can provide speeds to 19.2 kbps in point-to-point or multi-point configuations. However, voltage differences in ground planes and lightning strikes can cause surges that can damage attached equipment. Dedicated wire costs include the cost of the cable itself and installation labor.
