Beijing Gas Fuel Boiler Heating System

New, clean burning gas fuel boilers in Beijing China
New, clean burning gas fuel boilers improved winter air quality in Beijing China's Temple of Heaven area
In order to improve the winter air quality in the Temple of Heaven area of Beijing, the government of Chongwen District replaced the coal fuel heating with gas fuel boilers in that area and revamped the automation and communication system designed around Siemens S7-300 PLCs with a WinCC HMI and Data-Linc 2.4 GHz SRM wireless Ethernet modems to monitored and control 14 remote boilers from two command centers. Each of the 14 boiler rooms houses a PC with WinCC HMI software, a S7-300 PLC with Profibus D and an SRM wireless Ethernet modems. By using OPC server and client services, either or both of the local Central Control PCs can monitor and control any of the boiler rooms (See complete article and diagram).

Bonneville Power Administration

BPA monitors and transmits eight 0-5VDC signals from remote site over 3 miles to central station using A-A1000-8 analog transmitter and receiver with LLM1000 Leased Line Modems. (Please note that the LLM1100 has replaced the LLM1000, and the DDAA has replaced the A-A1000.)

Border States Electric

Border States Electric in Fargo, North Dakota, has integrated Data-Linc Group's CCS9000 system with Cooper Power Systems Form 5 Controls to communicate with a power substation. The system uses a Data-Linc DLM4100 dial-up Master to connect over a standard phone line to a CCS9000 Dial-up 4-port switch. A Data-Linc Group DLM leased-line Master is connected to the "5th port" on the CCS9000 4-port switch and connects to its 4-port switch via twisted pair. The combination of these components gives the user eight ports available to be selected over a single phone line. Each port can be configured to talk at different baud rates and the system can also be expanded by adding more masters to remote 4-port switches using the 5th port on the remote switches. The whole system is controlled via Data-Linc's ConnectsTM software. From Connects, the user can select the remote location (if more than one is available) and then the port. The software does the rest. Once Connects establishes the connection, it then releases the port and, if selected, "auto" starts the application needed to communicate with the device that is connected to the selected port. Once the communication session is completed, Connects is used to either select another port with which to communicate or to close the connection.

Boston Edison Pilgrim Pump Control

To multiplex and transmit 4-20 mA and contact closure data for pump control over 480VAC power lines, a plant is using D-D1000 RTU Multiplexer and LCM100-HV Power Line Carrier Modem. (Please note that the DDAA has replaced the D-D1000.)

China Power Generation Plant Coal Unload System

Mounted antenna (in forground) allows modems to transmit data between central control and ship-side coal unload manchines.
A power generation plant's coal-unload system that became operational in August of 1996 in China was brought into the 21st century by a recent revamping of the system. A Modicon-987/785E PLC and supervisor PC provide the control and monitoring while an OMRON-200 PLC operates in the unload machine driver room. Ten mobile coal-unloaded machines work on ships during the coal handling process. Since 1996 coal-unload machines communicated with the control room through a slide wire with limited data transfer. Not only was data communication limited, but the slide wire was costly, difficult to maintain requiring continual maintenance for optimal performance. The revamped system utilizes Data-Linc's SRM6100 2.4z band wireless serial modems which eliminate the need for costly slide wire.

Since the update the operator can read the parameters, movements and operations of the individual remote coal-unload machines and send control commands to them. Maintenance personnel in the control room can change the program on the remote PLC at the unload machine; additional PCs in the control room can share data from the unload machines; the PLCs have the capability to receive control and program commands from the control room; and if the primary PC (PC1) has problems, a switching circuit switches the SRM6100 wireless modem to another PC, ensuring the RF communication between control room and coal-unload machines.

Pacific Power Company

Pacific Power transmits multiplexed contact closure and 4-20 mA data on spare pair in telephone cable using A-A1000 RTU Multiplexers and LLM1000 Long Lines Modems. (Please note that the LLM1100 has replaced the LLM1000, and the DDAA has replaced the A-A1000.)
