Water/Wastewater Industry ApplicationRockwell and Data-Linc Group provide Lijiang, China with reliability, expandability, confidence and clean waterLijiang Water Authority needed 1.) an easy-to-implement means of expanding their existing water system while utilizing legacy equipment and 2.) to build this system in an area covering difficult terrain. In addition to these two technically challenging conditions, it faced a third: to win over the people of Lijiang from skeptacism caused by frequent shut-downs of the existing pipelines that turned them toward reliance upon old dependable wells with compromised water quality. Shanghai Saier Automation Company, a Rockwell Automation system integrator, worked closely with Encompass partner Data-Linc Group to design and install a new water system control and monitoring network that overcame the terrain communications challenge, incorporated existing equipment along with license-free serial stand-alone and chassis mount modems and ensured the dependable delivery of clean, safe water to the people of Lijiang. Data-Linc Modems Used for Lakeway MUD SCADA System in Austin, TexasConfronting growth and data accessibility demands in utility companies can involve exorbitant system upgrade costs. Lakeway Municipal Utility District in Austin, TX chose to incorporate Data-Linc Groups wireless Ethernet radio modems with Allen-Bradley PLCs to economically expand their legacy system and close the data acquisition gap. SCADA upgrade: Modernization without compromise in water/wastewater facility in DelawareCity of St. Augustine Utilities SCADA SystemThe City of St. Augustine collaborated with Data-Linc in developing a Water Treatment SCADA System that serves a remote field with 12 wells approximately 8 miles away, 10 sewage lift stations scattered throughout the city limits and a potable water repump station on the south side of town. In the well sites the Master SRM6000 communicates with the Allen-Bradley 1770KF-3 modules, which in turn communicate with the 12 Micrologix PLCs over an 18,000 foot fiberoptic network. All of the lift stations use SRM6000 radio modems connected directly to Micrologix PLCs. The water repump station uses an SRM6000 with a SLC 5/03 PLC. An Allen-Bradley RSLinx DF1 Polling Master is the driver with communication speeds of 19.2 Kbaud. One of the most useful features of the system is that it alllows operators to monitor and control all of the Remotes at the central utilities building and at the water treatment plant. Future plans include coupling the Master radio to a 2.4 GHz wireless WAN to further extend access to the remote sites. Denver City, Texas Water ProjectThe Lauren Engineers and Constructors project involves connectivity with Allen-Bradley PLCs at 31 water wells and one gathering station for the LSP Mustang Generating Station near Denver City, Texas. The wells were scattered over a 2 mile by 6 mile area with a number of the sites obscured by rolling terrain. The Master station is located in the station's control building along with the MMI. In addition to the SRM6000 serial radio modems at each well and gathering unit, two SRM6000 Repeaters were incorporated to gain the necessary coverage. Wireless Modems Make Automating Water Wells Possible Despite Challenging TerrainData-Linc has completed a project that consisted of automating 31 water wells and one gathering station for a generating station near Denver City, Texas. The wells were scattered over a 2 mile by 6 mile area with a number of the sites obscured by rolling terrain. The Master station is located in the stations control building along with the MMI. In addition to the modems at each well and gathering unit, two Repeaters were incorporated to gain the necessary coverage. Southern California Water DistrictCamrosa Water District in southern California installed an HMI system for remote monitoring and automated control of its 11 tanks, six stations and 12 meter stations, spread over a seven-mile radius. As part of the system, Camrosa installed two Data-Linc SRM6000 license-free radio modems as Masters and four SRM6000 as Repeaters to negotiate obstructions through the rugged terrain. In over a year, 29 SRM6000s and PLCs were installed, replacing each RTU in the older system. This eliminated the need for the leased phone lines which resulted in a significant savings. (See press release.) Water Production DepartmentMonitoring and control of water tank well levels and pumps at remote locations around City of Enid, Oklahoma, is being accomplished using Data-Linc Group's 9600 baud MDL500 full duplex modems connected to Modicon PLCs over 7 mile range. Water ReclamationVictor Valley Water Reclamation Authority, located in Southern California, chose Data-Linc's SRM6000 license-free radio modems and SRM6200E wireless Ethernet radio modem to upgrade their existing communications network. The data from over a dozen remote pump stations is now available in virtual real time. |
