Rockwell Automation Encompass Program: Americas Asia-Pacific Partner
As a Rockwell Automation Americas Asia-Pacific Encompass Program participant, Data-Linc Group manufactures the broadest line of industrial grade modems in the world. Data-Linc has focused its efforts toward insuring that the transmission of data between PLCs, RTUs, PCs and other industrial automation equipment achieves the highest possible level of accuracy, reliability and integrity. Full connectivity, and compatibility and interoperability with Allen-Bradley, Reliance Electric and other Rockwell Automation Equipment ensures ease of installation as well as providing insurance against potential operational problems. Data is transmitted by RS-232/422/485 cabling, typically using DF1 protocol on Channel 0. Data-Linc´s turnkey data communications systems integration capabilities are another added benefit to the customer.
In addition to the standard stand-alone metal enclosure with mounting flanges, Data-Linc also manufactures rack mount chassis versions of its license-free spread spectrum radio and wireless Ethernet, industrial dial-up and fiber optic modems -shown below housed in the Allen-Bradley Enclosures for 1771 and 1746 PLC rack Mount Capability. The Diagrams Section shows Data-Linc Modems interfacing with Allen-Bradley equipment.

Principle Features and Benefits
- Rack mount chassis versions of Data-Linc license-free wireless and wireless Ethernet, fiber optic and dial-up modems are housed in the Allen-Bradley 1771 and 1746 enclosures, providing PLC rack mount capability, either powered off the back plane or with a Data-Linc wall mount transformer. When rack mount modems are not required, stand-alone metal enclosures with mounting flanges provide physical environment protection and EMI/RFI immunity.
- Data-Linc Modems and connecting cables are factory configured for each application, assuring a trouble-free installation (no modem field settings, programming or adapters required).
- Data-Linc wireless and wire modems, including license-free SRM6000 Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum Radio Modems and MDL500 FSK Modems support half duplex, multi-drop polling of MicroLogix 1000 PLCs. An SLC 5/03 or 5/04 can also serve as the Master.
- Wireless full duplex, uncompressed data rates to 115.2 Kbaud with a distance to 35 miles (56 km). Operating temperatures from -40°C to +75°C (-40°F to 167°F). Dial-up/Leased Line from -40°C to +85°C (-40°C to +185°F).
- Data-Linc modems support point-to-point, multi-point and multi-path, multi-tier, multi-drop applications for CCS and SCADA installations.

- Data-Linc employ robust communications technologies to ensure exceptional data communications reliability and integrity:
- Frequency hopping spread spectrum wireless technology (license-free 902-928 MHz and 2.4-2.4835 GHz) has exceptional immunity to interference and data transmission problems.
- Frequency Shift Key (FSK) technology is immune to data transmission errors, providing the highest possible data reliability over any two conductor wire- shielded or unshielded, twisted or untwisted. No ground loop or shifting ground plane problems, plus immunity to EMI, noise and surge.
- Ability to transmit data across slip rings, sliding contacts, rolling wheels, shoes, brushes and conductor bars.
- The Data-Linc MDL500 Series of FSK wire modems can even superimpose data on in-plant facility wiring, including AC/DC power lines, PBX telephone wires and instrument loop lines (simultaneously, without interfering with the current, voice or instrumentation signals being transmitted). This eliminates the time and expense of data cable installation.

Typical Industry Applications
- Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority
Allen-Bradley PLC-5s and MicroLogix programmable logic controllers with Data-Linc radio modems and wireless Ethernet modems provide accurate, reliable and near real-time data acquisition. Scalable, high-speed, multi-tier, multi-drop radio frequency communications network controls pumps site, monitors and controls water pressure and adjusts flow levels from a computer in the main station, saving time and labor.
- ARCO Petroleum/Vastar Resources
Data transmitted over 8 miles between Allen-Bradley SLC 5/03 Processors using Data-Linc SRM6000 Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum Radio Modems in a particularly high interference environment. Data is transmitted between two oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico where previous radio modems had failed to deliver error free communications.
- C & M Conveyer and Material Handling Systems
Data communicates between PLC-5 Processors over a set of conductor rails as well as with a festoon system, using Data-Linc MDL500 Series FSK Wire modems. This system sends information to and from an AGV system.
- Denver Metro Wastewater Reclamation District
Alarm conditions are transmitted over Data-Linc DLM4000 Industrial Dial-up Modems for 24 hour communication with an Allen Bradley PLC-5.
- Armstrong World Industries
Data-Linc license-free SRM6000 Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum Radio Modems, operating in the 902-928 MHz license free band, transmit data between a PC and an Allen-Bradley PLC-5/30 Processor with RS-422 interface for crane control.
Data-Linc utilizes the most advanced Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum technology for license-free wireless data transmission and specialized Frequency Shift Key (FSK) techniques for data communications on any two conductor wire to provide the ultimate in data reliability and integrity while also achieving superior performance, trouble-free installation and assurance against potential operational problems.
