Bellevue, Washington, USA October 18, 2011 DATA-LINC GROUP announced the release of the FastLinc FLC830E modem at the annual ISA Automation Week in Birmingham Alabama. The FLC830E is one of Data-Linc's four newest license-free products and the latest addition to the FastLinc Family of high-speed modems joining the 900 MHz OFDM version FLC910E, released last year.
Data-Linc Group's FLC830E blends OFDM- Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing-and 802.11 technologies. It is the "next generation" in RF modem features and provides an ideal data communication option for installations requiring exceptionally fast data rates, as well as those in high RF-noise environments. The FLC830E replaces but is backward compatible with the legacy FLC810E+ and FLC820G. It is superior in robustness and throughput compared to other 2.4 GHz products, and it combines the 802.11 data rate with the robust OFDM technology for performance capability beyond either of the two technologies alone.
The FLC830E's long-range capability in the 2.4 GHz band-up to 6 miles (9.6 km) line-of-sight (LOS), farther with Repeaters- along with its exceptional speed (up to 54 Mbps) offers wireless communication on a single network that even supports SCADA and real-time security/surveillance video data transfer simultaneously. Additionally, the FLC modem provides the user with data prioritization through QoS (Quality of Service), permit¬ting user-adjusted preferential data service for reduced data latency- the transmission time for a data packet to travel from point A to point B. The FastLinc FLC830E also features modern encryption standards (AES, WPA, etc.) for enhanced security. Another advantage is that the high speed and OFDM combination greatly enhances plant floor performance by re¬ducing LOS issues and multi-path fading caused by RF reflection that can be particularly trouble¬some for plant-floor applications- conditions that constrain data rates and reliability in typical high-speed data systems.
The FLC830E is not only extremely robust and reliable; it is also versatile. It can serve as an Access Point for multiple FLC830E Remotes in Station Adapter mode as well as for the low-cost DeviceLinc wireless-cable modems for short-range, multipoint networks. The combination of high speed and low-cost DLRs for multi-drop make it an economical choice for short-range installations using with Data-Linc's SAA-V (Selectable Alert Audio-Video) security engine that supports up to five cameras for wireless coverage. Or for longer real-time security and SCADA, an FLC830E or FLC910E could be other options.
The combination of outstanding features, benefits and networking flexibility in a variety of network configurations has produced a data communication product with backward compatability (with the FLC810, 810E and 820G) as well as exceptional performance that is kind to the bottom line.
