Wireless Data Communications Offer Real-Time Information for Racecar Team

December 21, 2001— Redmond, WA— Data-Linc Group, the leader in industrial wireless data communications, today announced sponsorship of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, College of Engineering, Formula SAE Racing Team. Data-Linc Group will support the racing team by providing license-free, wireless serial radio modems.

The Formula SAE was designed to challenge the knowledge, creativity and skills of engineering students in real-world applications. Student teams produce prototype formula-style racecars for the non-professional weekend autocross racer. Later, the prototype is entered into the FSAE competition, held each May at the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit, Michigan, where more than 100 schools across the globe compete.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Badger Racing Team will be entering its 15th year of the program. Data-Linc Group was solicited as a sponsor to provide license-free, wireless serial radio modems. The SRM6000 modems will greatly enhance the safety and performance of the vehicle. The modems will be integrated into the engine management system to enable the vehicle to communicate to a PC in real-time.

"The SRM6000 modems will allow the team to calibrate the engine, log system performance and diagnose and correct any system failures or emergencies—all on the fly without the car coming into the pit," said Matthew Manthey of the Electrical Powertrain Group.
