Data-Linc Group Wireless Modems Match Scores Centralizing Real-Time Information Terminal at Mexican National Tennis TournamentJuly 30, 2001 Redmond, WA Data-Linc Group, the leader in industrial wireless data communications, today announced the successful installation and flawless performance of a real-time information network at the Mexican National Tennis Tournaments, held at Hacienda San Javier Tennis Club in Guadalajara, Mexico. The Tournament Manager needed a system to provide "real-time scores" at a centralized location where attendees could obtain up-to-the-minute tournament scores from the remote eight courts. The main issue in designing the system was that cabling could not be run through the halls or landscapes surrounding the tennis courts. A solution was achieved by integrating Data-Linc Group wireless serial and Ethernet radio modems into the system design. The main control location and court control boxes were developed by Ing. (engineer) Armando García of Automatización y Control Farga, S.A. de C.V. The system consists of 8 PLCsone Allen-Bradley Each court referee is able to record the score for each point and game in the set, push-buttons and data displays. All data received from the eight courts is automatically displayed on the central computer where attendees can access player´s names, match time, court status, scores and other information. The central computer, running Windows NT 4.0 and RSView 32, communicates with the main PLC via Data-Linc Group wireless SRM600E serial radio modems. Data-Linc Group wireless SRM6200E Ethernet radio modems were also integrated into the communication system to increase scalability and flexibility. This Ethernet connection allows additional computer terminals to be intergrated into the system and access tournament data via NetDDE and RSView32 Hector Gómez, tournament manager, is completely satisfied with system performance. He especially noted the easy installation, small footprint and flawless communication. Local and national tennis authorities and attendees were also impressed with the ability to easily relocate the terminals. "The Data-Linc Group radio modems are excellent," said Gómez. "The technology really works." Ing. Armando Garcia noted that he had achieved added value to the application because he integrated the state-of-the-art radio modems from Data-Linc Group. "Communication is 100% solid," said Garcia. "And, that makes the difference." |
