Data-Linc modems are known for robust, reliable performance in harsh environments. David Moore of VIAM Manufacturing Inc. knows Data-Linc modems from his day job. But it was in his time-off that he really put Data-Lincs reputation to the test in the desert at ROCSTOCK XXV sponsored by Rocketry Organization of California (ROC), a model and high-power rocketry club.
Moore selected the FastLinc FLC810E+ wireless 802.11b Ethernet modem to relay GPS, acceleration, speed and altitude readings back to command central during a model rocket launch held on Lucerne Dry Lake Bed, in the Mojave Desert in California. The serial GPS with a serial-to-Ethernet converter was connected to the FLC810E+ modem that communicated with the ground monitoring station. The FLC810E+ withstood 120° F and functioned flawlessly at 7+Gs as the rocket rose to over 10,000 feet at a speed in excess of 600 mph. So how tough are Data-Linc modems?
VERY.
