Data-Linc Group Sponsors Center for Intelligent Maintenance Systems

January 3, 2002— Redmond, WA— Data-Linc Group, the leader in industrial wireless data communications, today announced sponsorship of the Center for Intelligent Maintenance Systems (IMS), a joint venture of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Data-Linc Group supported the efforts of IMS by donating wireless, license-free Ethernet radio modems.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) on Intelligent Maintenance Systems (IMS) performs research to bring about innovation and practical solutions by focusing on industrial-relevant research needs; fosters collaborative research projects between industrial and academic engineers and scientists; and promotes interdisciplinary and intra-university research activities. The Center will focus on e-monitoring and e-maintenance systems; Web-enabled management and optimization of industrial systems; smart Device-to-Business (D2B)^TM technologies; and Web-enabled development tools for e-maintenance applications.

Data-Linc Group was solicited as a sponsor to provide license-free, wireless SRM6200E Ethernet radio modems. After rigorous initial testing, the modems performed flawlessly. "We are very happy with the speed of the Data-Linc modems, which was nearly two times that of our previous wireless equipment. Range is also substantially wider," stated Daniel Guido, IMS Project Manager and Research Associate. "We are very pleased with the performance of the Data-Linc wireless modems."

As a result of the successful testing, the SRM6200Es will be included in an upcoming project involving the transmission of data packets from machining equipment to a PC. Information will eventually be carried by the IMS Web-enabled Platform.
